The Convention Peoples Party (CPP), has declared its intention to abolish the Basic Certificate Examination (BECE) system, if given the nod to rule the country. The leadership of the party, led by its chairman, Mr Ladi Nylander, made this known on Tuesday, during a press conference in Cape Coast to present its administrative agenda in the areas of Education, Agriculture, Finance and Economy, Women and Children and other sectors, if it clinched power in 2012. Dr. Paa Kwesi Nduom, the 2008 Presidential candidate of the Party, in an answer to a question on its education policy, explained that, the Party will institutionalize a compulsory education programme for every Ghanaian child, from kindergarten through to the senior high level, to help establish a stronger and wider front for any student to get employment in future. “Even if a few fail to qualify for tertiary institutions their skills could be developed to meet any required employment opportunities in the country. Dr. Nduom explained that, the promotion of a student to the senior high level will be based on a yearly examination for students, adding that, the CPP will ensure the provision of incentives to primary school teachers and create opportunities for career development programmes. On the energy sector, Mr Nylander said a CPP administration will waive taxes on petroleum products and remove the fix percentage on oil and gas revenue, in an effort to offer massive support to boost local industry. He said the CPP would dedicate a huge portion of the oil and gas belt to Ghanaians alone, to encourage nationals with expertise in the industry, scattered around the world, to come back home to work. Earlier, the high profile party members paid a courtesy call on the Oguaa Traditional Council, where Osabarimba Kwesi Atta II, Oguaamanhen congratulated them for appointing the shadow ministers, and said, it was an indication of how zealous the leadership of the Party was to secure power, saying that, it was laudable. He advised them to carry out a rigorous research into their respective sectors, to enable them to be abreast with the current trends and also keep government on its toes. Osabarimba Atta commended the leadership “for patching up their differences” and urged them “to let bygones be bygones” and endeavour to resolve their internal problems promptly. He bemoaned the situation where politicians change their attitude after clinching power and failing to honour their campaign promises.
